Charges filed in 2009's first murder

March 30, 2009 David Garrett was gunned down just a few hours after ringing in the new year at a Near West Side club.

Lorenzo Hall, Forest Smith and Malcolm Whitehead are now charged with murder. Police say the three suspects were arguing with Garret when Hall pulled out a gun and fired the fatal shot.

A fourth man who was with the group has been charged with a probation violation.
