Police: Man first person charged under gun law

Chicago police say an 18-year-old gang member is the first person charged under a state gun law that Governor Quinn signed Thursday.Kirk Craan was cited for unlawful use of a weapon, possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number, and possessing ammunition without having a valid state firearms owner ID card.

He is charged under the Valadez law, which requires a sentence of 3 to 10 years in prison for a gang member convicted of illegally possessing a loaded gun.
