Union accuses CTA of violating contract

August 11, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Union representatives say workers who were dismissed and have since been reinstated in a court settlement are being harassed. They also contend the CTA is still trying to dismiss at least three of those workers.

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 241 accuses the CTA of violating the Fair Labor Standards Act.

"The CTA has no respect or regard for the contract that we negotiated between the unions and them, and they continually violate us on a regular basis," said Darrell Jefferson, president, ATU 241.

The CTA released a statement saying it is in full compliance with the terms of the settlement that reinstated those individuals and it is following all work rules outlined in the ATU contract.
