Interactive boards like smart boards and promethean boards seem to be the wave of the future. They are changing the face of the class room.
The Promethean Interactive Board looks like a massive flat screen, but it's an interactive whiteboard. It combines color, motion and interactivity with sound.
They were invented in the United Kingdom, but the company has a headquarters here in Atlanta.
Promethean Boards were first sold in the U.S. in 2001, and have now made their way into Mid-Michigan classrooms.
Each costs around $3,000.
"I think, eventually, you'll see interactive boards of some kind in all class rooms," said Bob Cunningham from Promethean, Inc. "In the United States at this point, 30 percent of classrooms have them.
"When I started with Promethean in late 2005, it was about one percent. Generally, you'll find now within a company employees may have more information than the manager, and this kind of technology kind of facilitates the idea of collaboration to accomplish a task."
In Genesee County, Clio, Flint, Mount Morris and Westwood Heights have Promethean boards.
In Saginaw County, Saginaw Township schools have them.
Lakeville schools in Lapeer County also have them.
