A Berrios spokeswoman confirmed to the Chicago Sun-Times that he was notified last week of the investigation.
Berrios was sworn in on December 5. He then gave a job to his son Joseph and his sister Carmen. Both had previously worked for Berrios when he served on Cook County's tax appeals board.
County ethics rules prohibit elected officials from hiring or supervising a relative.
