The artwork, called "Color Jam," is designed by University of Chicago Professor Jessica Stockholder, and when completed will be the largest public artwork in Chicago history. The project requires 76,000-square feet of brightly colored vinyl that will cover parts of the buildings at that intersection and all four sidewalks on each corner.
"I like the colors," said Marcell Johnson on Tuesday. "I think it gives the intersection personality."
Color Jam is the third installment of public art from Chicago's Loop Alliance (CLA). The previous pieces were Tony Tasset's three-story "EYE" sculpture in 2010 and Kay Rosen's mural encouraging viewers to "GO DO GOOD" in 2011.
Color Jam officially opens on Tuesday, June 5th at 10 a.m. However, until then you can watch the construction process on a live feed at artloop.chicagoloopalliance.com.
