9 killed, more than 40 hurt in weekend violence

June 11, 2012 (CHICAGO)

At least 40 others were wounded in shootings across the city.

Police say in the latest shooting someone opened fire at a party near Halsted and 50th Place in the Back-of-the-Yards neighborhood. Two were killed and three others were injured just before midnight.

Just hours before, ministers had led marches through the community to end the violence, following another deadly shooting. On Friday night, Rashaun Stephany and Mario Jackson were fatally shot. Two others were wounded.

"He was on his way to the studio to make his music," Alease Davies, Stephanie's mother, said. "That is all he ever did. They snatched him away. It hurts so bad."

"It's a pain that there that will never go away," said the victim's brother, Darrin Dishman. "The love and support is good but there's still going to be that hurting pain."

The other shootings occurred across the city.
