Blue Bell Recall: Do not eat products made at Okla. facility, CDC says
CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday that consumers should not eat any Blue Bell brand products made at an Oklahoma production facility.
The CDC made the announcement after three additional people became ill from listeriosis, a foodborne illness linked to some Blue Bell ice cream products.
Carol Crawford, a CDC spokeswoman, confirmed Thursday that three people in Texas have the same strain of listeria previously found in five others at a Wichita, Kansas, hospital. Three of the five in Kansas died.
Authorities said the three sick people in Texas were also hospitalized for unrelated problems when they developed listeriosis.
Blue Bell, based in Brenham, Texas, has temporarily closed a production plant in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, after traces of the pathogen were found there.
Blue Bell on Tuesday announced a third product recall as a result of the contamination.
