Blanca Magallon bone marrow drive draws dozens hoping to 'Be the Match"

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Dozens of people came out to register as donors at a bone marrow drive Saturday for a Chicago Police officer in need of a lifesaving transplant.

The event held at First District Police Headquarters was for Officer Blanca Magallon, who was diagnosed with leukemia in July.

The mother of four said after ABC7 Eyewitness News first shared her story the "Be the Match" registry was bombarded with calls.

"They reached out and said, 'Hey, let's take care of this and have as many people as possible become donors, get on that list and hopefully we find you a match and other people that are in need as well.'"

A second drive will be held from 5-9 p.m. Monday night at the 11th District Police Station on West Harrison.
