CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 16-year-old boy on his way to school was wounded in a shooting in the Ashburn neighborhood Monday morning, police said.
The teen was walking in the 7800-block of South Trumbull near Sarah Goode STEM Academy at about 7:47 a.m. when he was shot, police said. The boy suffered a gunshot wound that went through his upper thigh, police said. He then went to school and waited about 30 minutes before calling his mom to tell her he was shot. His mother then called police.
The boy was transported to Christ Hospital in good condition, police said.
The shooter was described as a 20-year-old man, about 5-foot-6 and wearing a black, puffy coat and gray joggers, police said.
