Police: Man struck and killed by car in Evanston

EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Evanston police say a 52-year-old man was struck and killed when crossing the street Saturday morning.

Officials said Mircea Bembea, of Lincolnwood, was crossing eastbound in the 800-block of Dodge and was struck by a vehicle going northbound driven by a 49-year-old woman from Evanston.

The man was transported to St. Francis Hospital and pronounced dead.

The incident is being investigated by the Major Crash Assistance Team. Citations are pending against the driver, police said.
