Chicago Defender holds Newsmakers of the Year Gala

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Defender honored members of the community Saturday during its annual Newsmakers of the Year Gala.

Among the honorees is Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. Organizers say the event recognizes people who display the uppermost level of leadership and commitment.

Other honorees include Joakim Noah of the Chicago Bulls and Congresswoman Robin Kelly. The top award went to the Jackie Robinson West Little League team.
