17-year-old Jefferson Park boy fatally shot

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot Friday in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood, police said.

Alvin Stoll was standing in an alley with someone else in the 5300-block of West Foster Avenue around 9 p.m. when someone in a dark colored sedan fired shots in his direction. Stoll lived near the location of the shooting.

Stoll was struck in the abdomen and taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced.

Stoll's friends said the teen had once attended Taft High School, but was now going to an alternative high school better suited for his sense of humor and love of music.

"It was hard to wake up and see the text that Alvin had passed away," said Brian, a friend of Stoll's. "I didn't believe it. Alvin is a good kid."

"He was gone and I just couldn't believe it," said Harley, another friend of Stoll's. "I was supposed to spend the night at his house tonight."

The shooting shook the usually quiet Jefferson Park neighborhood, which officials said has not seen a murder since late 2015. The killing is only the fourth in the community since 2010.

Alderman John Arena (Ward 45) issued a statement on Friday:

"This murder is particularly shocking as the 16th District has one of the lowest murder rates in the city...while we have successfully brought more officers to our area, we remain committed to fighting for additional resourced to stop gun violence."

No one was in custody Friday afternoon. Area Central detectives are investigating the shooting.
