Police: 4 killed, 28 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago
CHICAGO -- At least four people were killed and 28 wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening, according to Chicago police.
The most recent fatal shooting happened Sunday morning in the Old Town neighborhood on the North Side.
About 4 a.m., the men, ages 20 and 30, were shot when someone walked out of a fast food restaurant and open fired in the 100-block of West Division, according to police. The shooter got into a Chevrolet Tahoe and drove away south on Clark Street. The 20-year-old was fatally shot and the 30-year-old was shot in the back and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
The block where the shooting occurred was the target of a recent undercover drug investigation, according to a statement from Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd).
Less than two hours earlier, a man was fatally shot in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 2:25 a.m. found the 23-year-old lying in a gangway in the 8900-block of South Laflin, according to police. He was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier in the morning, a man was shot to death in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
The 36-year-old was shot in the head about 1:55 a.m. in the 5100-block of South Indiana when a dark-colored SUV drove up and a male exited the vehicle, walked up to the man and fired a handgun twice, according to police. The shooter got back into the SUV, which drove away east on 51st Street.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
None of the three most recent fatal shootings were immediately confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
About midnight, Tontriche Weathersby Jr., 20, was fatally shot in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, authorities said.
Weathersby was at a party in the 5800-block of South Maplewood Avenue when he got into an argument with a male who showed a handgun and shot him in the chest, according to police and the medical examiner's office.
Weathersby, who lived in the 2100-block of West 91st Street in Evergreen Park, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m., authorities said.
The most recent non-fatal shooting wounded a man in the Englewood neighborhood early Sunday on the South Side.
The 23-year-old was shot in the jaw at 6:38 a.m. in the 6400-block of South Yale, according to preliminary information from police.
His hospital information and condition was not immediately available.
At least 27 more people have been wounded in other shootings since the weekend began.
