CHICAGO (WLS) -- Budget cuts are forcing Chicago Public Schools to eliminate 270 bus stops for the new school year.

The change affects about 6,600 of the 90,000 students in the district's magnet and selective enrollment programs. The cuts mean some of those students will have to walk 1.5 miles to catch the bus.

The district expects to save more than $11 million by making changes to bus routes and the hours of the school day.
