Cubs, White Sox vie for Chicago baseball supremacy
The crosstown baseball battle of North Side versus South resumed at Wrigley Field Friday with the Cubs hosting the White Sox in the first of a three-game series.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The crosstown baseball battle of North Side versus South resumed at Wrigley Field Friday with the Cubs hosting the White Sox in the first of a three-game series.

The White Sox took Game 1, 1-0, Friday afternoon.

Whether you're a Cubs or Sox fan, this series is a rite of summer, but the game did not sell out and that surprised a lot of people.

Chicago's major league franchises started a three-game tilt for local baseball supremacy, but tickets aren't nearly as dear as previous years. Weather and lost losing in recent years are factors and then there are the face prices.

"It's hard for a family of four to get to a game and sit in quality seats at a decent price," said Max Waisvicz, Gold Coast Tickets.

At the famous marquee at Clark and Addison, fans concur and they say what they want.

"We expect so much and they're not producing like we think they will," said Cubs fan Christian Coe. "Hopefully they can turn it around after the All-Star Game, but right now we're still in support of the Cubs, we love our home team, and hopefully they give us what we want."

Well Into the fifth inning and the turnstiles still welcomed fans. The scalpers are buying and selling. One Sox fan said the relative lack of buzz makes sense.

"Neither team has been doing good, so I feel it's just something to do," said White Sox fan Mirella Kovela. "There's no Hawks on, there's no basketball on, so we might as well watch some baseball."

Upwards of 120,000 fans are expected at Wrigley Field over the weekend.

ABC7 will broadcast the games on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game starts at 3 p.m. On Sunday afternoon watch our pre-game show at 1 p.m. with Mark Giangreco. The game begins at 1:20.
