CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Museum of Broadcast Communications is celebrating television talk show host Dick Cavett Saturday night.
Before the event, he spoke about the challenges he faced when he first started hosting a talk show in the 1960's.
"My first week I wasn't prepared for how impossible it was to listen to the guest because you can see somebody giving a signal you don't understand," he said. "Somebody over there letters a sign, and they take it down before you can see it. And then you look back to your desk, and the guest's lips have stopped moving. And you don't know what the hell they were saying or even what the subject was."
Saturday night's "Salute to Dick Cavett" honors the Nebraska native for his career.
A video exhibition titled "Dick Cavett: A Retrospective" opens Tuesday and runs through September 27th.
