DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Police in south suburban Dolton are investigating two sex assaults that took place a week apart and appear to have been perpetrated by the same person.

Police said the first attack happened at approximately 9:42 p.m. on May 2 in the 300-block of 144th Street. The second attack happened at approximately 9:43 p.m. on May 9 in the 600-block of Engle Street, about half a mile away from the first attack, police said.

Police said in both attacks, women were walking alone when the offender approached from behind and showed a handgun. He walked the victims to a secluded area where he then sexually assaulted them, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a "young looking" black male of average height with a medium build. He was wearing dark-colored clothing, a vest, a hooded sweatshirt and a white "do-rag" on his head.

Police said they are following several leads as they investigate, and asked citizens to be vigilant and for women to walk in pairs or groups if they must walk at all.

If you have any information about these attacks, call Dolton Police at 708-201-3200.
