KIRKLAND, Ill. (WLS) -- A rare bald eagle was spotted standing guard over a nest just west of Kirkland, Ill., this Memorial Day weekend.
An ABC7 Chicago Facebook fan shared these photos of the eagle he spotted off Irene Road near Highway 72 on Monday. He said he came across the nest between the Kishwaukee River and a bean field.

Kirkland is located in DeKalb County, about 80 miles northwest of Chicago.
Last week, a pair of bald eagles were spotted nesting in Busse Woods in northwest suburban Elk Grove Village.
An ABC7 Eyewitness News viewer said he saw the majestic birds near I-90 and Arlington Heights Road on his way home from work earlier this week.
Chopper7HD flew over the swamp and saw the eagles perched on a tree that held a large nest.
