CHICAGO (WLS) -- The city of Chicago is bringing back the Go Run program for round two.

It is a free series of timed 1 mile and 5K community runs in neighborhood parks.

It gets underway again starting September 24 and will take place every Saturday through November 12.

Runs begin at 9 a.m. at Humboldt, Warren, and Washington parks.

"This summer we saw 'Go Run's ability to build a stronger social fabric in communities across the City of Chicago," said Mayor Emanuel. "Residents were able to get to know their neighbors, hit physical milestones and even make new friends all within their local park."

During runs this summer, the city said more than 1,800 participants logged nearly 3,000 miles.

The runs are open to everyone. Participants and volunteers can sign up at www.cararuns.org/en/gorun or before the run each Saturday between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Participants are not restricted to a single park.
