Woman claims she was hit by golf ball while driving near golf course

GLENVIEW, Ill. (WLS) -- A woman claims she was hit by a golf ball while driving her car near the Glenview Prairie Club. Now they're making safety changes.

Mayta Spitz, 65, said in June she was driving her car with the window down when a golf ball flew through her window and hit her in the neck. In response, the Glenview Park District is taking action to reduce the chance of the same thing happening to someone else.

The park district's plan includes repositioning the tee markers for the fifth hole, which they said should cut down on the number of golf balls leaving the course. They also called for more signs posted on the sidewalks to warn residents about flying golf balls, and more trees and shrubs to be planted along Shermer Road.

Spitz was driving south on Shermer when the incident happened.

"I was in extreme pain. My husband took me to the hospital," she said.

Spitz has met with park district officials and is happy with their changes.

"I'm satisfied with what they've started to do. I'm hoping that they continue to monitor the situation now that the golfing season is winding down," Spitz said.

The Glenview Park District said its staff has been checking every day for golf balls that may have left the area of the club. They said they haven't found any.
