Gary man charged with stealing wire along interstates

BURNS HARBOR, Ind. (WLS) -- Indiana State Police made an arrest in a series of wire thefts along interstates.

Officers said they arrested James Higgason III, 47, after he was seen cutting wires from a pole along I-94 near Burns Harbor.

Investigators said they used several tips to track down Higgason, of Gary. Piles of wires were also allegedly found in the back of his pickup truck.

Recent thefts have cost the state tens of thousands of dollars in damage and police believe there may be more suspects out there.
