ELMHURST, Ill. (WLS) -- An Elmhurst elementary school was closed Thursday and Friday because of a bat infestation.
Two bats were discovered hiding in a multipurpose room inside Jefferson Elementary School on Wednesday. The bats were tested and were negative for rabies.
The Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 decided to close the school Thursday and Friday as a precaution and to allow for a thorough inspection and cleaning. Thursday was supposed to be the first day back at school for students.
No bats have been found in the school since Wednesday and officials anticipate school to be open on Monday. The principal will update parents via the district's phone and email notification system this weekend.
