CHICAGO (WLS) -- The attorneys for the Chicago cop accused of murdering 17-year-old Laquan McDonald are asking for documents on the teenager's past.
Jason Van Dyke faces first-degree murder for the October 2014 shooting.
His attorneys want McDonald's juvenile records into his time as a state ward.
They say the records are necessary in preparing Van Dyke's defense.
Van Dyke claims he shot McDonald in self-defense.
