Federal agents detain multiple people on Northwest Side, push alderwoman on Halloween: VIDEO

Cellphone video captured a man being taken away by federal agents near Waveland and Kimball in Irving Park on Friday morning. The man was put in the back of a truck, and then, agents drove away.

Noem said immigration enforcement will not be paused during Halloween weekend. On Friday, that was evident.

Over at Sawyer and Lawrence in Albany Park, a chaotic scene played out.

Surveillance video from a neighboring business shows agents arriving. A crowd then gathered as two people were detained.

Cellphone video shows agents telling people they were assaulted. Video also shows agents attempting to pull someone out of a vehicle.

Olivia Dunn says her neighbor was among the people detained.

"We could see that they were detaining someone and throwing them down on the ground. It happens to be our friend," Dunn said. "They warned us that there would be tear gas, and then, they deployed pepper bullets."

The incident took place a short distance from the office of 33rd Ward Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez, who came out to see what happened. At one point, agents were seen pushing the alderwoman.

"I think they decided to come with a vengeance, because they were asked to slow it down so the kids could have a joyful time. They decided to escalate it," Rodriguez-Sanchez said.

ABC7 reached out to Customs and Border Patrol for comment but did not immediately hear back. Click here for more.

Illinois lawmakers approve ban on civil immigration arrests in state courthouses

After weeks of verbally condemning the aggressive federal immigration crackdown in the Chicago region, Illinois lawmakers approved legislation banning civil immigration arrests in and around state courthouses early Friday morning.

House Bill 1312, among other provisions, would also allow Illinois residents to sue immigration agents who violate their constitutional right to due process and protection against unreasonable searches and seizures.

It heads to Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker's desk after clearing the Illinois Senate 40-18 and the Illinois House 75-32 in the waning hours of their annual fall veto session.

'Deplorable conditions': Emergency lawsuit filed over conditions at Broadview ICE facility

An emergency proposed class-action lawsuit has been filed against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) over "abusive and cruel" conditions for people who have been detained and held inside Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)'s processing center in the village of Broadview.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of two people who were detained by ICE in the past two days and held at the Broadview facility.

Attorneys with the ACLU of Illinois and the MacArthur Justice Center say U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have denied people being held at the Broadview facility private calls with attorneys and have blocked members of Congress, faith leaders and journalists from entering the building, creating a "black box" they say has allowed authorities to act "with impunity."
