
Additional victim reported in Washington Park shooting, bringing total to 1 killed, 14 hurt
A man was killed and at least 14 people were injured when gunfire erupted as officers tried to disperse a crowd at a South Side park on Saturday night, Chicago police said.
Police said the shooting happened in Washington Park in the 5400-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue just after 11:30 p.m.
An unknown person or group of people started firing into the crowd, striking several people, police said.
Police initially reported 10 victims - four women and six men -- including a 35-year-old man who was pronounced dead the University of Chicago Medical Center after being shot in the body multiple times. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Rontonio M. Guterz, of Chicago.
CPD later said five additional women were injured in the shooting. One person was seriously injured, 10 people were in fair to good condition, and the conditions of the three other victims were not immediately known.
