Families are seeking answers amid investigations into bodies found at South Chicago Chapel funeral home and Bohemian National Cemetery and Crematory.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has begun releasing a list of names of the human remains officials said were found improperly stored at a funeral home on Chicago's Southeast Side.

The medical examiner's office said it could take days to identify all of the bodies found at South Chicago Chapel and notify their families.

Lawsuit filed against South Chicago funeral home accused of mishandling remains as more bodies ID'd

The first lawsuit has been filed against South Chicago Chapel.

The lawsuit is seeking class-action status.

A lawsuit was filed against South Chicago Chapel, a 95th Street funeral home accused of mishandling dozens of bodies, as more remains were identified.

According to court filings, a Texas woman alleges the funeral home, run by funeral director Johanna Morgan and her husband, Clark Morgan, "...failed to properly affix identifying information..." to her deceased relative and others. The lawsuit also alleges the defendants "...failed to maintain a proper inventory..." of remains.

Dozens of decomposing bodies found at funeral home on Southeast Side, officials say

An active investigation could be seen at a funeral home last Thursday evening on the city's Southeast Side after officials said dozens of decomposing bodies were found there.

The scene was at South Chicago Chapel funeral home in the 2900-block of East 95th Street.

Dozens of decomposing bodies were found at South Chicago Chapel funeral home on East 95th Street on the Southeast Side, Cook County officials said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said its investigation "found more than 50 decedents in various states of decomposition."
