BANGOR, Maine (WLS) -- A 99-year-old woman graduated college 75 years late after a $5 fee kept her from finishing her degree in the 1930s.
Jessie Jones White was supposed to graduate from Beal College in Bangor, Maine in 1939, but didn't receive her degree because of a $5 transcript fee.
White finally received her diploma in a private ceremony after a friend told Beal College's president Alan Stehle about White's story. Stehle paid off White's balance and hosted the ceremony where she very belatedly earned a degree in stenography and bookkeeping.
"It was wonderful. I had a lot of fun," White told ABC News.
"Never give up learning, they say when you give up learning you grow old," White told ABC affiliate WVII-TV. "So I don't intend to give up learning"
