Aaron Smith charged in beating death of Tennessee man in Park Manor

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Aaron Smith, 28, was charged in the murder of Anthony Morris, 27, who was beaten to death in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood.

Officers responding to a battery in progress found Morris lying unresponsive in the street in the 7000-block of South Vincennes Avenue around 1:35 p.m. on March 26.

Morris, of Jackson, Tenn., was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. He died eight days later.

An autopsy performed by the Cook County medical examiner's office found he died of complications from head and brain injuries caused by being struck on the head. His death was ruled a homicide. Police did not provide a motive for the murder.

Smith, of the 6500-block of South Washtenaw Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder. He is due in bond court on Tuesday.
