Merrillville bank robbed at gunpoint, police say

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (WLS) -- Police are searching for a male suspect in connection with an armed bank robbery in Merrillville, Ind.

Officials say the suspect entered the rear doors of the Fifth Third Bank in the 6700-block of Broadway around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect then allegedly ordered employees to the floor and robbed the bank before fleeing on foot, police said.

The suspect is described as an African American man around 6 feet tall, weighing 170 pounds and wearing a black jacket with light grey shoulders and blue jeans.
