Mundelein family drops lawsuit after school acknowledges failure

MUNDELEIN, Ill. (WLS) -- The family of a Mundelein High School student who committed suicide has dropped a lawsuit against the school district after administrators acknowledged they failed to comply with Illinois law.

The family of 14-year-old Mikyla Wren were not seeking monetary compensation with the lawsuit.

"From the very beginning, the purpose of the lawsuit was simply to get the School District to follow the law and take basic steps to better ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of their students," said the family's attorney Steven Glink in a statement.

The suit claimed School District 120 did not take steps that could have prevented the tragedy by failing to comply with Ann Marie's Law, a 2015 Illinois law that requires schools to have a suicide awareness and prevention plan.

Wren was a freshman at Mundelein High School when she committed suicide in October 2015.
