DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) -- A robbery and shooting suspect is at large after barricading himself in a home in south suburban Dolton for hours following an armed robbery and shooting, police said Wednesday.

Police said the man allegedly robbed and shot a male victim around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday outside of an abandoned house.

"The victim was there to buy an iPhone, so he was responding to what was possibly a fake ad. When he parked there, the subject got into the car there, pointed a gun at him and whatever took place inside, the offender ended up shooting the victim in the side," said Chief Robert Collins, Dolton Police Dept.

Police say the victim is in critical but stable condition.

Authorities described the suspect as a young man, possibly in his late teens, who ran to a family member's home on Evers.

A large police presence, including SWAT units, were outside the home for much of the evening. Police said officers eventually entered the home and searched it, and did not find the suspect. An arrest warrant is being issued. The suspect is still at large.

Police initially used loudspeakers to try to get the suspect to leave the house, it didn't work.

Sources told ABC 7 the suspect is wanted for multiple robberies throughout the south suburbs. Dolton police will only confirm the suspect is known to a number of their officers and to police in nearby South Holland.

"He is known to at least the town next to us, South Holland, and he's known to several of our officers," Collins said.

Police said they're working to secure a warrant to enter the home, but said they will continue to coax the suspect out of the house.
