DWIGHT, Ill. (WLS) -- Police in Dwight are searching for a suspect in a deadly shooting in a home that left two women dead and one man wounded. No one is in custody.
On Saturday night, friends of the victims in the small village 80 miles southwest of Chicago in Livingston County are trying to make sense of what happened. Police tape surrounds the house that became the scene of a deadly crime.
Police say the man who was shot called authorities, who arrived at 4:30 a.m. On Saturday afternoon, Dwight police released few details, such as who pulled the trigger and why. They did say they are searching for the person or persons responsible and will not let any stone go unturned as they investigate.
"I want to assure the community of Dwight and the surrounding communities that we will not quit until this case is solved," said Chief Tim Henson, Dwight Police Department.
Friends of the victims say the two women are a mother and daughter, who both live in the home, and that the daughter has a young son who is vacationing with relatives. The injured man is the boyfriend of the daughter, and the couple also works together at the local Dairy Queen, friends say.
Friends say they are hearing conflicting information about whether police have zeroed in on a suspect.
"In a small town, you don't think anything like this is ever going to happen. They'll be missed greatly," said neighbor Sharon Voigts.
"Haven't been told anything. One person says this, one says that," said family friend Jen Corrigan.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Dwight police.
