CHICAGO (WLS) -- Holiday travelers could hit a snag if they're flying O'Hare International Airport. Some workers threatened to go on strike.

Almost 2,000 baggage handlers, cleaners and security officers, employed by private contractors, voted to walk off the job sometime in the coming days.

With an estimated 22 million Americans expected to fly between Friday and Thanksgiving, a looming strike could cause problems at O'Hare.

The workers said they are fighting for $15 an hour wages and better working conditions. They think a strike during the busy holiday season could be a way to grab some attention

"They need to have the right to demand and receive living wages, safe working conditions and respect and dignity on the job, like all working people deserve," said Tom Balanoff, president, SEIU Local 1.

SEIU union leaders said the workers plan to picket outside the airport and walk through the terminals.

The Chicago Department of Aviation said if a strike happens, it does not expect any disruption in service during the holiday rush.
