I-Team: Operation Outlaws takes on Cook County's Most Wanted

The ABC7 I-Team is on the hunt for dangerous fugitives. Our "Operation Outlaws" program to publicize and catch wanted criminals expands to the Cook County Sheriff's Department.

The trail of outlaws is dicey and unpredictable, populated with men and women wanted for sex crimes, homicide and everything in between. Some have been on the lam for years.

The I-Team, with Operation Outlaws and Cook County's warrant unit, starts with a man wanted for murder because of a $50 debt.

First, it's morning roll call for the sheriff's warrant unit before they split into arrest detachments and hit the streets. This team alone has been working together for more than 20 years.

The county apprehends more than 3,000 fugitives each year, leaving more than 40,000 still out there at any one time. This is 18-year-old Montrelle Edwards, found guilty in a heroin case last year and sentenced to 24-months of probation, as he is taken into custody for violating that probation, according to court records. But they haven't been able to track down 30-year-old Patrice Doss.

"Patrice Doss is wanted for homicide he is dangerous, not just based on the charges," said Tom Dark, Cook County Sheriff.

In November 2008, Doss was in Harvey when he got into a heated argument about a $50 marijuana debt. Doss and his friends pulled out handguns and started shooting.

"He shot through a door and the guy on the other side was killed," said Dart.

Wanted for first-degree murder, Doss has been on the lam for six years. He stands 5'10" and tips the scale at 300 pounds. His last known address is on South Hoyne Street in Harvey.

Sheriff Dart took over policing suburban Ford Heights in 2008 after the financially-strapped village disbanded its police department. Last April at a Ford Heights grocery, police say Alvin "Bang" Montgomery was dealing drugs in front of the store then attacked an employee.

"Went out there to get him to leave and got horribly beaten by this man. His face got fractured in numerous places, it was a nasty beating," said Dart.

Montgomery is 26 years old, 6'1" and 220 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He is last known to live on Ambassador Lane in Ford Heights.

"The internet and media frankly are the only real tools that can substantially change the dynamics of the war game," said Dart.

Sheriff Dart said ABC7'S "Operation Outlaws" is one new tool in his fugitive offensive, along with warrant sweeps, in which deputies converge in high-crime areas searching door-to-door for people on the lam.
