1 dead in S. Side police-involved bar shooting

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was killed in a shooting involving an off-duty Chicago Police officer Sunday evening at a bar in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood near 111th and Spaulding.

Police say when an officer observed a man shooting at another man, the sergeant drew his gun, announced his office and ordered the offender to drop his weapon. When the offender ignored the officer and pointed his weapon at bar patrons, the officer shot the offender.

The original gunshot victim was transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, while the offender was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer's weapon was recovered at the scene.

There were no other injuries reported in connection with this incident, which remains under investigation. There is no word yet on who was shot or what caused the shooting.
