20-year-old Aurora man fatally shot

AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- Theran L. Smith, 20, was fatally shot in west suburban Aurora Saturday, officials said.

Police responded to a call around 2:25 a.m. of shots fired in the 900-block of Jackson Street, where they found Smith lying in a driveway with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

Smith was hanging out in a group of people in the 500-block of East Ashland Avenue when multiple shots were fired from a line of trees south of the group, investigators said.

Smith ran from the area and then collapsed where police found him.

He was pronounced dead around 9:25 a.m. at an Aurora hospital, officials said.

Police are continuing to investigate, as a motive for the incident is unknown and no one is in custody. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Aurora police.
