11-year-old boy killed, 5 injured in rollover crash on I-290 in west suburbs, state police say

COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- All westbound Interstate 290 lanes were shut down for hours after a deadly rollover crash in the west suburbs on Sunday morning, Illinois State Police said.

ISP said troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash at 25th Street, near Bellwood, Broadview and Maywood, just before 11:15 a.m.

One person was pronounced dead on the scene, ISP said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Officer identified the victim as 11-year-old Iker Paredes of Chicago.

Five others were hospitalized, and their conditions were not immediately known.

ISP said traffic was being diverted onto 17th Avenue as they investigated.

What led up to the crash was not immediately clear.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
