Ald. Ray Lopez to propose renaming Northerly Island in honor of Pope Leo XIV

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago alderman wants to honor Pope Leo by renaming a popular spot.

Ald. Ray Lopez wants to rename Northerly Island to Pope Leo XIV Northerly Island.

He plans to introduce legislation on it to the Chicago City Council on Wednesday.

Pope Leo is a Dolton native and the first American to lead the Catholic Church.
