BATAVIA, Ill. (WLS) -- A furry bundle of joy is roaming the land at Fermilab.
The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia is celebrating its first, newborn American Bison calf of the season.
It was born Monday and is staying close to its mother on Fermilab's open grassland.
"People come to Fermilab for world class science, but the bison herd has become one of the most beloved parts of our identity," said Fermilab Director Norbert Holtkamp. "Fermilab occupies a very special place with the local community and in the global scientific landscape."
It has been home to a herd of bison since 1969. The lab expects 20 bison calves to be born this year.
