Historic Catholic school in Wicker Park closing after more than 150 years

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A historic Catholic school on Chicago's Northwest Side is closing after more than 150 years.

Parents at St. Stanislaus Kostka Academy in Wicker Park learned the news Thursday in a letter.

The school has been open since 1874.

Church leaders say its closing at the end of the school year because of falling enrollment and a growing budget deficit.

The church will stay open.
