Woman struck, killed by vehicle while on sidewalk in River North, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday in River North, Chicago police said.

The crash happened around 11:40 a.m. in the 700 block of North Dearborn Street.

A Porsche sedan driven by a 62-year-old woman struck a pedestrian, a woman who was standing near a sidewalk, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner identified her as 35-year-old Wanda Mejia.

The 62-year-old driver was issued a citation and was also taken to a hospital, Chicago police said.
