Shooting outside Woodlawn gas station leaves 4 wounded, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Four people were wounded in a shooting outside a gas station in Woodlawn Wednesday night, Chicago police said.

The shooting took place at about 7:12 p.m. in the 6600-block of South Stony Island Avenue.

Police said a vehicle pulled up and several people got out and started shooting, wounding four people. Officers later spotted that vehicle and pursued it.

One man was shot in the head and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

An 18-year-old man was shot in the back and leg and 19-year-old was shot in the leg, with both transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were in fair condition, police said. A 18-year-old man who suffered a graze wound to the back was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.

Police are questioning several persons of interest.

Rep. Robin Kelly shared the following statement late Wednesday:
"Praying for those impacted after tonight's shooting near Jackson Park. Preventing gun violence is a priority of mine. Period. I will continue my fight in the US Senate. Our communities deserve better. Preventing gun violence and saving lives will always be my top priority."
