Chicago area expected to have heat index values around 100 Tuesday, Wednesday

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Due to heat index values around 100 on Tuesday and Wednesday, ABC7 Chicago meteorologists are issuing an AccuWeather Alert for both days.

The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications is encouraging residents to be prepared for extreme heat.

Temperatures will likely be in the low to mid-90s, but humidity will make it feel much hotter.

Cooling centers are expected to be opened.

When the temperatures climb to extreme levels, it is important to check on relatives, neighbors, seniors and vulnerable populations.

Chicago residents can call 311 for well-being checks.
