CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teen suspect has now been charged with first-degree murder after a 13-year-old boy was fatally shot two months ago on the city's South Side, Chicago police said.
The victim, 13-year-old DeAntwan McKeever, died a week after he was shot in South Chicago, officials said.
The shooting happened around 2:50 p.m. May 21 in the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue in South Chicago, police said.
Officers responded to the scene and found a 13-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his head. The victim was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition, CPD said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner said a week after the shooting that the boy had died and identified him as DeAntwan McKeever.
Police spent much of the evening the day of the shooting on that block and were seen going door to door for surveillance video.
Now, two month after the shooting, Chicago police announced a suspect has been charged.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested Thursday in Chicago, police said. He has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting.
CPD has not named the suspect because he is a minor.
The teen suspect will appear in court Saturday.
No further information was available as Chicago police continue to investigate.
