In November 2022, Ruby Navarrete, 15, and Lynner Hawkins, 44, were shot to death in the 5800-block of West Augusta Boulevard.

Edwin Lagunas was 18-years-old when he was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Nearly four years after the deadly shooting, Lagunas pleaded guilty to only one first-degree murder charge.

He was sentenced to 40 years at IDOC, to be served at 100%. He will receive credit for the 1,148 days he already served.

Chicago police said Lagunas shot and killed Navarrete and Hawkins during a garage party. A third person was also hurt.

The party was advertised on social media, and attracted dozens of people from all over the area.
