His mother was surrounded by loved ones who gathered outside the South Side YMCA with silver and black balloons to honor the late Hyde Park Academy sophomore student.

They came together 24 hours after Billups was shot and killed. Another student was injured.

The shooting happened minutes after he got out of classes.

Billups' family says he was one of three children, and that his maternal grandmother was also killed by gun violence.

Police haven't given a motive behind Billups' shooting.

So far, no arrests have been made.
