Chicago-area interstate ranked worst bottleneck in the country

HILLSIDE, Ill. (WLS) -- A Chicago suburb has gotten the title of having the worst traffic bottleneck in the country.

The interchange where I-290 crosses and merges with I-294 and I-88 has the worst congestion of any interchange in the U.S., according to the American Transportation Research Institute.

The average speed was 39.5 miles per hour.

Its the first time that particular interchange, located in Hillside, has topped the list.

I-80 at I-94 ranked 24 for the worst bottleneck in the country.

The Windy City also got a shoutout for I-290 at I-90/I94, the bottleneck was ranked 26 with an average speed of 29 miles per hour.

I-55 was ranked the 38th worst bottleneck in the country.

Chicago's I-90 at I-94 on the North Side was ranked 57 with an average speed of 30.5 miles per hours; and the South Side's was ranked 77 with an average of 40.9 miles per hour
