Horror moment out-of-control driver hits student boarding school bus in Florida

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. -- The moment an out-of-control Florida driver struck a middle school student boarding a school bus was caught on camera.

The Lee County School District released this footage showing a silver sedan careening into 14-year-old Abby Westveer in Bonita Springs on March 31, sending her flying.

According to local news outlet WINK, the car hit Westveer's back, and her backpack left a dent on the vehicle. She managed to walk away from the incident with soft tissue damage and was receiving treatment for whiplash more than a month later.

In December, the school district announced a $225 citation for anyone who illegally passes a stopped school bus with its lights flashing. Cameras were also installed on all buses and evidence would be shared with local authorities.
