Darien home invasion suspect denied pre-trial release after high-speed chase, Homer Glen standoff

WILL COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- A suspect arrested after an hours-long SWAT standoff in the southwest suburbs tied to a home invasion and a high-speed chase appeared in court Thursday.

Michael Lahey, 32 of Homer Glen, has been charged. A judge ordered him to be held in custody pending his trial.

The standoff happened Tuesday in the 13200-block of Maverick Trail in Homer Glen, the Will County Sheriff's Office said.

Before the standoff, authorities say the suspect ran to a home in Darien, where a home invasion was reported.

Police said a victim at the home was taken to a hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.

Darien police followed the suspect but stopped the high-speed chase in Homer Glen, a couple miles from that home.

Law enforcement eventually found him and then came a long standoff. During the standoff, officers repeatedly issued warnings over a bullhorn. Officers also warned that chemical munitions would be deployed.

In court Thursday, prosecutors said Lahey threw a piece of glass and a stool at the homeowner Tuesday, injuring him. They allege Lahey then led officers on a pursuit reaching speeds over 75 mph in a 35-mph zone.

Prosecutors say he drove into oncoming traffic on multiple occasions. Officers eventually ended their pursuit for safety reasons.

Lahey then returned to his Homer Glen home and the SWAT team responded, officials said. That triggered a shelter-in-place order for the neighborhood that lasted several hours until his arrest.

The suspect is facing several felony charges.
